  1988 Mooney M20K 252 TSE


Introduced for the 1986 model year, the Mooney M20K 252 (TSE) effectively addressed many of the long-standing issues with the 231 series Mooney introduced in 1979.  The 252 has a dramatically improved engine installation aimed at reducing heat issues that had plagued its predecessor. 

The 252's Continental TSIO-360MB is a factory intercooled installation, delivering much cooler induction air to its six cylinders.  The induction system was cleaned up by changing to a NACA type inlet on the right lower cowl which also proved more resistant to induction icing issues.  The 231's two small cowl flaps were nixed for a massive single, electrically actuated cowl flap on the 252.  Also, in the transition to the 252, the 231's problematic fixed wastegate was replaced with a variable wastegate with automatic controller. This improved turbo actuation method improves cooling and fuel consumption, spinning the turbo up on demand rather than continuously. These improvements made the 252 a very desirable plane, with very little tendency to overheat or overboost.  The -MB engine in the 252 has a much better service record than the previous models, with recommended TBO being a strong possibility and not a dream!

N252BY is a fantastically equipped, economical cross-country machine with an exceptional maintenance history.  The last 12 annuals have been done at a local Mooney Service Center.  Logs are complete and original since being awarded a standard airworthiness certificate in 1988. 
This is a ready to go ADS-B equipped traveling machine with two WAAS equipped  Garmins!

Paint & Interior

Paint was done in December of 2003 with Alumigrip, G8010 Off-White with G5007 Royal Blue and G7037 Toreador Red.  Paint has several minor flaws in high wear areas, and no perceivable loss of glossiness.  A minor touchup would bring the condition of the paint to a strong 7 on the bluebook scale, or what most would call an 8 on a scale of 10.



Interior is original and in good condition for its age with light wear and tear in the typical areas.
